Rear Main Seal
Good afternoon. My next project is to replace the leaking rear main seal on my 1952 Hornet with the set from Best gasket. While I know the best practice is to remove the engine, I am not in a position to do so at this time, so I am going to attempt the replacement with the engine still in the car. I have reviewed various threads on this forum concerning the subject, and feel reasonably confident. One question that I have concerns removing the rear cap. The service manual says to use Puller J-2955. I know that AutoZone rents automotive tools. Does anyone here know if I can rent a tool that will do the job? Also, what type of "punch" have folks used to pack the cotton wicking in the vertical holes?

With some luck remove the cap Bolts then wiggle the cap slightly back & forth using the bolts. Try lightly tap the bolt heads and/or pry bar.0
