Removing rear wheels 1923 Hudson

Trying to remove the rear wheels on my 1923 Hudson. I am using the wheel remover but have tightened it as far as I can and no movement. Is there a trick to get the wheel loose?

Can I use a mallet and a piece of 2x4 on the inside of the wheel to get it loose? Any help would be appreciated. I need to check the bearings and grease and seal. Having no problems at present but don't want to cause any taking the wheel off.

    You are using the correct hub puller? The one that screws on to the hub with a center threaded bolt that fits into the dimple on the center of the axle? I use penetrating oil and the original puller and have never had an issue. I would not touch the wooden spokes or outer steel rim with any hammer or other devise. These old wooden wheels don't like any type of hard shock. if you need a picture of the correct puller let me know.

    Some heat around the hub will be helpful, plus a whack with big hammer. The axles butt together, so you cannot damage the differential.

    Yes I have the correct hub puller and I did not plan to hit the wooden spokes. Using a little heat and hitting the hub are great ideas.

    Hit the wheel puller bolt when you have it as tight as possible (not the hub).

    A very "Heavy" dead blow hammer ( 8 lbs) works better than a lighter hammer swung harder. Slow and Easy is the Word.
