Clicking noise from clutch which disappeared when clutch depressed

I have a 1939 terraplane 8 cylinder
new clutch fitted and 3 arms set according to manual
when travelling there is a metallic clicking noise
Any ideas as to what is causing this?

Either clutch plate not machined true, or fingers not adjusted correctly.  if they are uneven, then one finger will flap around.
