Drive-Master
The 1948 mechanical procedure manual states when the accelerator pedal is depressed the car moves forward in pick-up gear and shifts into high gear when pedal is released.Are they referring to second gear when using the word pick-up gear as it sounds like it only shifts once.

No, they're referring to the "kick-down" switch (under the gas pedal) disengaging the overdrive to increase the engine RPM temporarily.0
