Can I use silicone gasket maker with conventional gaskets ?

I'm now proceeding with my exhaust manifold gasket job and have ordered a set of asbestos impregnated gaskets from the ROC.
The mating surfaces on the block aren't as smooth as those on the manifold, due to the effects of leaky head gaskets over the last 87 years causing a bit of pitting in places.
I know that you're not supposed to stick gaskets down with gasket maker but would it do any harm to smear a small amount of high temperature copper/silicone gasket maker on the underside of the gasket for a good seal against my block ?

I have used the permatex brand (ultra grey or Ultra Black) of gasket makers on exhaust manifold , intake manifold, thermostat housing, water jacket, & timing cover with excellent results.  Use it very sparingly & be careful on tightening as gaskets can tend to push out of place if to tight.  Doug Wildrick recommended this to me & said they do it in his shop, otherwise leaks pop up.

Did you do that in combination with a normal gasket ?
