The 8.8” Ford rear is in. I still have to set the pinion angle and weld the perches after the engine and trans are mounted. Wheels are 15x8. Tires are 28x11.5 Mickey Thompson ET Streets (street legal slicks). No mods to body or chassis to fit.

I guess there was one modification... the plate that goes under the springs was modified to accept the U bolts that have a wider span to go around a 3.25” axle tube. The Hudson axle tube is 3”.

    Looks tuff!
  • Just about ready to put this in and fabricate a transmission crossmember and engine mounts.
  • Firewall clearance... check
  • Radiator clearance... check
  • Floorboard clearance... nope, but I knew I would have to modify that.
  • I've been busy with other stuff... working on the bolt-in transmission crossmember now.
  • Nice to see you're still going strong! By the way, I've never seen a box like that oil cooler at the front of the V8. Is that a factory Ford thing? I'm a complete noob when it comes to Ford, really.

    Looking good Danny
  • About half way done. Just need to make the arm that reaches forward for the trans mount to sit on.
  • Crossmember done. Tomorrow after work I will slop some paint on it and get it installed.
  • Painted and installed.
  • I finished the engine mounts

Sorry if this is a stupid question (I’m no chassis specialist), will that hold the downward weight and flex? I’ve only seen motor mounts with triangulated sides, that’s why I ask

*edit* Oh wait, now I see the T joint in the middle, never mind

  • Yes it does.
  • Very nice! Looking good!
  • Cutting the oil pan for rack and pinion clearance, so I can leave the firewall untouched.

    Still looking good

  • Test fitting... there was just enough space to install the engine and trans together. Once it’s in, there is room to remove the rack without disturbing the engine, if I ever need to.

  • Cleaning up the floor pan... no rust, but it has been abused, at some point. I will be repairing he carnage before I modify it to fit the new transmission.
  • Making some progress. Thank you to Bent Metal for the guidance.
  • You’re steaming on and doing great work!

// I get an email when you post something new, I don’t respond every time but know that people are following your topic and are very much enjoying and applauding your progress. Wishing you a merry Christmas and a great new year
  • Thanks Rhodora.  I’m still welding, cutting and welding.

  • Getting some more patches ready to weld in tomorrow.

  • Getting the closed back up, little by little.
