46/47 grill question

there are 3 horizontal 'louver center panels' in the grill.  At the rear of these panels, there are slots about 3/4 inch long.  at both ends and the center. 

What do they connect to?

    I just assembled mine, nothing mounts on the rear. The front corners mount on the bracket and the center to the "ladder" ( that's what I call it). Not sure why the slots where there. I looked at many cars at shows because I had the same questions. I thought I was missing something also.
