Gas millage

I have a 41 8cyl w/overdrive and I only get 12 mpg on the hiway. My engine has been rebuilt plus it only has 47k orig mileage. comp is 100psi any suggestions

    Are you sure your odometer is correct?  Have you tested it (by comparing the odometer readings to the mileposts on your nearest Interstate highway)?  I would try verifying that for starters, so you're sure you're dealing with the right numbers.

    I have gotten as high as 18, and most often 16 on my '50 C8 3spd w/ OD (Supermatic rear), 12 seems a bit low to me.
