I think I found some answers....

D is the code for piston diameter. 10/3 is the weight in oz. or 10 and 3/4 oz.
Pistons are numbered as to which cylinder the piston was originally installed. The 3 digit number should match the 1st 3 digits of the motor number . Making sure the pistons were installed in the correct block. This info from my 1942-1947 shop manual.0 -
obviously, someone fed a whole bunch of old movable type into the intake - glad they shot out the exhaust . . . and hopefully someone has the real answer!
