Piston sleeves

Ok has anyone ever had a block rebored and piston sleeve put in on a splasher 212? Can you do just one cylinder, what would be estimated cost. Can a cylinder with a small hole about the size of a pencil lead be just welded, or plugged, besides JB weld.

  • Haven't done a splasher but have had several other makes sleeved.
It works fine. Normally about $100 a hole IIRC.
I would sleeve before trying to do a different kind of fix.
I think there would be more concerns with the expansion and contraction at different rates since the repair will be a different metal then the original.
Finding a sleeve to fit may be an issue for the shop doing it.

  • Can a small hole like that we welded and then honed?

If there is one hole there is likely to be more.  It is possible to sleeve one cylinder, but the 3" bore blocks are quite weak.  You must leave a lip on the bottom for the sleeve to butt against, otherwise there is a possibility of the sleeve dropping.   Far better to find another block.  Not practical to weld the cylinder, due to distortion, and difficulty of welding cast iron.
