Shifter lever set screw wear

I replaced the shift indicator section...the N, D, L... on my '51 and it slipped as yours does. The splines were worn so I marked where it was located on the shaft, removed it, and drilled a small divot in the shaft to give the set screw something to grab on to. I then drove the car for a couple days and retightened the set screw a second time. I took an allen wrench and ground it down so I could tighten the set screw without taking the whole thing apart. I did redrill and tap a 3 speed manual set screw to 5/16ths from a 1/4 inch with JB Weld on the splines but haven't had a chance to drive the car and won't until spring. Terry0
