Pertronix with alternator and overdrive.

Hello out there.
I was wondering if anyone out there running a pertronix ignition unit  has an alternator and overdrive is working.
Vehicle I'd 6 volt positive ground.  I was running with pertronix ignition and overdrive worked nicely. Started having generator problems so I managed to get hold of a 6v pos ground alternator at a really good price . However since installation the overdrive will not engage. I have attached the wire that was on field of regulator to hot side of starter solenoid as suggested. But nothing.
I was wondering if anyone outthere has experience with this.

Regards

  • your likely still wired up to your original voltage regulator. You can’t use the regulator with an alternator.

Wire should have been on A. terminal of generator, not Field.  it could not have worked  that way.
  • It is a single wire alternator alternator with internal regulator so am not using old regulator.

The attached diagram is provided to assist you in checking your wiring.  As noted this will work for a 6 or 12-volt alternator installation.
