Which Head Gasket for 308

Anyone know which Best brand head gasket I will need to use on a 308 engine that has the 1/2” studs to hold the head on?  I’m thinking it’s the 1955-56 but not sure.  Also, does anyone know the compressed height as well?

  • The 1955-1956 is the right one for all 308s with half inch stud or bolt conversion. I use the ones from BestGasket. The Maas' use those too, and recommended them to me. Many years without an issue and good performance. I don't know the compressed height however.

I reached out to Russ & he said they didn’t have any so I’ll have to try Dale Cooper.
  • Dale is where I usually get mine. If he's out or has too many orders to fill, Olson's Gaskets also carries them. Make sure you ask for BestGasket or they'll try to send you an all-metal one.
  • I’ve always been recommended bestgasket but felpro is another option only if you’ve still got the cast head on it . It will blow with the aluminum head and a felpro gasket.
my best guess on compressed gasket size is .015.
