Front Coil Springs on Step-Down

Has anyone replaced their front springs? What was your choice of replacement coil springs; standard, heavy duty, progressive, custom spring rates?  What symptoms lead you to replacing the coil springs?

I put NOS ones on the 51 sedan that I restored. I replaced them when I was restoring it. I never drove the car but got a good deal on them and replaced them while the fenders were off.. wish I could be more helpful.
