Longer Studs

on a 52 Hornet with twin H I was thinking of putting two gaskets on the bottom then the heat shield then two gaskets then the carb.  Will I need longer studs and where can I get some. Thanks John

  • The original setup had 4 gaskets above, and four below the heat shield. If the studs are original, they are long enough.

I ran into a similar problem years ago; I think I put 4 gaskets above and 4 below, the heat shield.  I recall finding a suitable stud either at an auto parts store, or in the fasteners section of a hardware store.  The stud was so high that it almost bottomed out on a portion of the carburetor, and if fact one must lift the carb up in order to start the nut on the top of the stud.  But it's well worth it to have lots of gaskets, for I have never had vapor lock in my Terraplane, even when idling at a long stoplight on 90+ degree days.
