the 1938 owners manual states aluminum soap base lube to lube the water pump. what do we use today in place of the stated lube ? thanks

The ROC says that the silicone type used in outboard motors is best but I haven't tried it.
I use Castrol Classic water pump grease - it looks like brown ear wax !
