54 Hornet Gas Tank

Has anyone tried installing one of the repro gas tanks marked 48 to 53 into a 54?  Has anyone used one of their gas tank sending units that can speak to their accuracy?

    Allan, the main difference between the 48-53 and the 54 gas tank is the filler neck.  Everything else is the same but the angle of the filler neck on the 54 is unique to that year only. Also, the locking fuel cap is different from earlier years as well. If you had a 54 neck you may be able to solder it onto a repop gas tank. As for the gas tank sending unit you can use one from a 49-51 Ford. It won't be exact as the ohm rating is different but it will work. Dennis Carpenter Ford sells those.
