What went wrong?

I removed my oil pump the other day. I inspected it, cleaned it, polished the seats where the balls rest reassembled it and installed it. I went to start the car and all it would do was crank - no spark. I pulled the distributor cap and rotor button to check the point gap and discovered that the distributor shaft is not rotating when I rotate the engine with the hand crank. What on earth happened?
