Yes, that sounds familiar. Unfortunately I'm
about 2500 miles away from my own car to confirm this.

Of course you could just use the disc brake retrofit from
" 1928 Hudson Retrofits R Us".

Jeff, In answer to your guestion on the 28 Brakes,
If I am reading your guestion right, there is a slot with a key in it on the top
side of the part with the 'Cup'. This key must be removed to remove the
pivoting ball that fits into the cup. Maybe Bob C. can confirm
this.
