1954 Hornet Horn Button Restoration Question

My horn button paint is crumbling in many spots. I have removed it. Does anyone have any tips on removing the remaining paint and repainting it? I don't want to scratch or fog the lens.

I refurbished several of the plastic parts on my 47 pu.  Long story short I lightly cleaned the old paint from the inside in my blast cabinet then began repainting the various colors in reverse order. As an example the ship and castle on the hood emblem was silver first then the red then the black as background.  Fingernail polish works well and is inexpensive in a multitude of colors.  A toothpick dipped in paint will fill the small details or a syringe with a very small needle will also work.  Spray can works well to finish the background after all the details are completed.  It can be time consuming however
