Difference between a 1922 and 1923 Hudson Sedan

I am trying to license my 1923 Hudson but the police say it is a 1922 by the
body number.  Is there another way to verify the year?  Any changes that I
would notice?  It is a 7 passenger sedan.

According to Butler's "History of Hudson" there is no difference between 1922 and '23 models, and the numbers range from 100,000 to 499,999 for the years 1921-'23, so it is very much a matter  seeing how close to these numbers your car is and taking a guess!
Even the numbers are confusing, as we have no detail as to what number the production  vehicles reached!

For me, I believe older is better, so if it was me I would agree with the police. There is a date on the top of the bell housing but a batch of them could have been cast in 1922.
  • Could of been built it 22 and sold in 23. It’s near impossible to tell the two years apart.
Chassis number should be stamped on the rear right frame end. What are the police using to know the body number is 23?
  • Let them make the determination. You will have it licensed for your enjoyment and use. does it matter that much which year it is?
