I think 1939 was the only year cable ran the long long long way around the front of the motor and back to the arm on the gearbox. If you have the ends they are easy to get made
Brake service specialists should be able to make you a new one. Otherwise, if you can bring yourself to be non-original, save yourself a lot of bother and fit a floor shift. Any gearbox lid from '34 to '38 will bolt straight on.
