Hi all, looking for some info on what it takes to stop front end shimmy on a 49 step down. I know it has old tires which I assume adds to the problem, and I imagine warn bushings will add to it too. Any ideas what to start with?

  • Check for problems in the entire steering system. Start with the tie rod ends. Then check the center point steering bracket including the ball end , needle bearings and pin. Check and make sure the 3 bolt center point steering is indeed bolted at 3 points. Check the drag link for lubrication and adjustment. Then check the tie rods themselves. Check the steering box and the gears inside . Check for lubrication level in the steering box. Check for kingpin wear . Check for steering arm wear. Check your tires for both being the same size

Yep, and while you are checking them all--replace them.
  • Make sure your shock absorbers are working properly.  If you have old tires, maybe biasply  with tubes, they can be the culprit for sure.  And what lance and Browniepetersen said.

First thing I would do is get the wheels balanced.
