Dana Rear End Carrier Series Swap

Hello: Does anyone out there know if you can swap a 4:09 or 4:55 series carrier into a Dana in place of a 3:07?  If so, what else needs swapped such as axles, etc.?  This 53 Hornet car had a 2 lever OD originally. Thanks. bjgund

  • I'm pretty sure you can build what ever ratio you want into this rear from today's parts shelves.
  • The rear end pops right in Bob. Dana swaps with Dana and Hudson swaps with Hudson. Pull the axles and have at it. Ratios don't cause any problems
  • I had a  54 Hornet with overdrive and a 4:55 axle.  First gear was too low for me.  The car was hardly moving when it was time to shift to second gear.  If I'd have kept the car I would have found a 4:09 carrier to put in it.

This was on fairly level ground near sea level.  If you are in high altitude mountains, the 4:55 could be best!

  • Thanks guys.  I have a 4:55 on its way.  Nothing ventured nothing gained and nothing trumps a "try" but a failure.
