Spark Plugs used with Pertronix Products

I have the pertronix ignition and ignitor coil in my 39. Works great so far. I use the factory recommended Champion J8 spark plug and was talking with my neighbor (who is a hot rodder) he suggest I go with a high heat plug such as a iridium type. The car runs fine with the Champion J8 and I asked my local chapter president and he says I need not worry about a hotter plug as I could have over heating issues in the summer. Any thoughts guys?

I ran the one set of J8? plugs in my 53 Hornet with pertronix for 10 years, they were still going strong when I sold it. They never need to be cleaned or reset, there was no electrode erosion.
  • Thanks Bob after speaking with others I have decided to keep the Champion J8 plugs
  • Can you get J8's? I can only get and use J8C's which seem to work fine.

    Same thing!
  • Champion RJ8C is what I have. I just said J8 as it is the base number and factory recommended but as Geoff C points out J8C is the same thing

You can add another .005 to the gap. and gain a little fuel mileage.
  • Thanks SuperDave I shall do that.
