Black 1950 FORD "Custom" Business Coupe' - $16,500 (Memphis, TN 38138)



This 1950 Ford Custom is the "Business Coupe' " (2-door with no back seat). Original rubber front floor mat, plus original rear rubber mat on the platform floor (behind front seat), plus original rubber mat in the trunk; original jack in correct location; spare tire in correct location.



It has 15" rims on the front and 16" rims on the rear wheels. Ford put said 16” rims on Business Coupe's as left-over’s from the earlier cars that used the 16" rims, original, from the factory, making it even more rare!! Tires are the original type and do not show any wear.



ACTUAL mileage is 34,457 Has all of the original windows/glasses, "LOF", by Libby Owens Ford. You have to see it to believe this low mileage.



I have the next-to-last friendly owner's name, Leo, and telephone who lives in AZ; Leo bought it from the original owner, I believe, a farmer in Kansas that lived North of Salinas, KS. Leo owned it a few years and rebuilt the brakes and a few things to the car and knows a lot about the history of the car. I spoke with Leo today, 2/17/2010. Leo sold it to the man I bought it from in SC; garaged for last 5 years too.



Good/rebuilt brakes by Leo, good emergency brake, great clutch and throw-out bearing, tight steering, great heater, good ride, and great flathead 6 cyl engine (more torque than the flathead V8's); early February 2010, we drove it 516 + miles from Greenville, SC, to Memphis, TN - NO MECHANICAL PROBLEMS! Inside-located, factory hood release works great. Horns,,, nice!



It is painted a very shiny, black lacquer, like show cars have; needs minor detailing.



In fact, a perfect candidate for restoration (NO RUST; KS, AZ, SC & TN car) to produce a 100-point, show car appearance; or, daily driver or show it as is.



Originally, the Ford Coupe's came in two styles:



the 6-passenger Club Coupe' (back seat and rear windows rolled down) and



the 3-passenger Business Coupe' (no back seat and rear windows did not roll down). The latter replaced its back seat with a rubber mat-covered floor shelf or platform.



When new, these economically-priced automobiles started at $1,333. The Club Coupe' in the Custom Deluxe six-cylinder line was priced at $1,511. For $79 more a V-8 could be added.



The standard 95-horsepower I-6 was a 226 cid L-head equipped with a one-barrel Holley carburetor. The 239 cid V-8 had a 2-barrel carburetor to produce an even 100 ponies under the hood.



The only transmission was a three-speed manual, column-shifted, which included a manual gearbox or the optional auto overdrive. (overdrive option may be added today, of course)



The headliner, door panels and seat were recovered due to tears, age and smudging (great for daily driver as is), but it is suggested to replace them with original-type material so that it appears "original" and it has great durability; well worth the effort; see this example for comparison:
