This 1947 Hudson pickup is a vehicle on a mission, believed to be the first designed to be driven and raced by someone with quadriplegic disabilities. Randy Simmons of Robotics Integrated Technology built the truck for Michael Ryan Pattison, who was injured while diving into a lake in Washington State. Pattison, a former high school athletic star, has regained movement in his shoulders and upper arm muscles but continues to steer his wheelchair with a mouth control. A special mouth control system has been devised for the truck, which has an 800-horsepower, 7.3-liter and bio-diesel fueled Power Stroke engine. Simmons expects to ride along as Pattison seeks speed records on the salt flats.
