Can anyone tell me what year engine is with serial number 7234321.Also, where are the casting numbers found on the block? The big numbers on the rh side don't look anything like the ones posted in the forum Thanks,Karl

Hornet casting #s    are on Left side mostly hidden by distributor.

    304539 is 1951 1952, 1953 block.
    310111 is 1954 block
    523500 is 1955 &1956.

Thank you much. Mine  has 310111 so it is a 1954.. Is the engine serial number the same as the body number?

That is not a serial number but a casting number from the foundry.  Serial number is stamped  on passenger
side of block at front edge just ahead of the exhaust manifold.

OOPS,  Too early!  Yes, serial number on the body plate should match the stamped number on the block.

For those who are curious, the foundry logo on this 262 Super Wasp block is for the Lakey Foundry and Machine Company, Muskegon, Michigan

What does the number 310110 signify then if 310111 is 1954.  Different foundry, same year?

Its a 262/232 block rather than the Hornet.  As to foundry,  Foundry logo is right below the casting number.
Most were CWC  / Campbell,Wyant and Cannon.   Those with WF were cast by West Michigan Steel Foundry.

Just proves what Murphy's law states -  "Interchangeable parts exhibit fundamental differences".   and "All replacements will be infinitely  more difficult to fit".
