Clifford Headers/Manifold

Since I have 2 cracked exhaust manifolds I decided to call Larry at Clifford Performance. PHONE 951-471-1161

Seems he just sold his last set in stock last week so he is planning another run right around thanksgiving.

It would be a good time to get some ordered if some of you guys are looking to do some upgrades over the winter.

I also inquired about the alum intake manifold for the Hudson and was surprised to find out he has it in stock.

So it seems that once I get time to finish up the dual 1bbl EFI setup for the twin H, I may just grab the alum manifold and set up a 2bbl EFI system for it. Or maybe better would be a nice multiport EFI system for the Super 6. Then we could go turbo for a little more fun!

Just no limit to the money we can spend! ;-)

  • New to the forum, but an old hotrodder, carguy.
I like what I hear about Clifford performance but do not fully understand their story. I have a '49 262 super six and rather than replacing it with a V8, I would love to have a hot six.
To what extent is this feasible, could I use the 262 withe rebuild and add-ons, or do I try to get Clifford to build a 308 for me?
I would like a reliable driver, but extra performance has always been my goal with al my cars. Don't mind if I loose some of the quiet ride, in fact I like a good sounding exhaust.
What amount of work would I have to do and what type of expenses are we talking?
    Thanks

    FYI

The 262 is a good reliable motor for the average enthusiast but if you want Powerful 6 start with the larger displacement 308 Hornet Motor. I dont think Clifford builds Hudson motors anymore, just a few components.
. I Suggest Contact Randy Maas Machine in Manito Il.www.21stcenturyhudson / maasfh@ntslink.net / 309 968 6157 because they are now the Hudson Hi Perf Speed Specialists for several Yrs. Maas Machine will build you a Hornet stock up to an all our Race Motor in a very short period. They also will sell you the right speed Equip if you want to build locally, as well as adaptors to GM Trans....

Bill - some good thoughts above.  I think the Clifford intake is a great platform for your EFI, and will go well with the dual exhaust headers too.

I think you're also on the right track concerning the 2bbl EFI (you probably want to get their adapter plate, as the intake is a 4bbl unit), as a 4bbl EFI is probably too much - unless a lot of other work is done on the engine to 'back it up'.  That will also be a good basis for the 'turbo' progression as well (Clifford intake & exhaust, EFI, and then turbo).

Honestly, of the three 'stepdown era' engines (232, 262, 308), I like the later 262 engine (wide block) the best.

Note:  I really do not categorize the 254 as a 'stepdown era' engine, as it was a carry-over from the pre-stepdown era (and a splasher engine).  However, it is a very reliable engine in its own right...

  • Larry said the parts are all cut and will be welding them all together.

They don't offer any header coatings so I will be getting mine bare and then send them out to be coated prior to install.

I live a couple cities away from the house they work out of and when I stopped in to purchase my headers and talk about my build with Larry I think was his name, he showed me a twin h setup adapted with webers. He said the throttle response was amazing. Not like thay pertains to you because of the fuel injection but clifford still has parts available. Headers cam grinds and intakes. He also told me about adapting a mallory unilite to a hudson.
